Our Gold – 100% Recycling

Since 2009, our production partners have been manufacturing our rings exclusively from recycled gold. In doing so, we draw on gold holdings that have been in circulation for generations. We do this quite deliberately, because as a company we do not want to create any new incentives for conventional, environmentally harmful gold mining.

Gold

Precious metal

Gold is a precious metal that has fascinated people for thousands of years. Although, in terms of its physical properties, it is not particularly useful as a raw material for everyday use – for example for the manufacture of tools – it is an entirely different aspect that makes it almost magically attractive: it is its enduring beauty. This is one reason why the first gold rings were made in ancient Egypt, some of which have survived the millennia in their shape and color to this day. Thought to be a symbol of immortality at the time, these pieces of jewelery are now testament to why gold wedding rings are the perfect symbol of a lifelong bond between two people.

More important than ever!

Noble origin?

With the high attraction of gold came greed. Over the centuries, there have been repeated rushes to newly discovered “gold veins”, such as in the 19th century in today’s US states of California, Colorado or most recently in Alaska on the Klondike River, which has become famous as a result. These so-called “gold rushes” were no guarantee for a happy life and sometimes led to the exploitation of workers and left clear traces in the landscape – circumstances that are still similar today: Gold mining is still operated worldwide with great energy expenditure and leads alongside the change in the environment, in particular through the use of chemicals such as mercury or cyanides, to partially irreversible, devastating environmental damage – quite apart from the damage to humans.

Since 2009

100% Recycled Gold

As early as 2009, we therefore asked ourselves with our production partners how we could offer our gold products without further fueling the harmful process of gold mining, in order to take responsibility for ourselves and our environment. The solution was to switch 100% to using recycled gold. Gold that moves in a constant cycle in the cities and is therefore “stored” in considerable quantities right on your doorstep. Gold, which no longer creates new incentives for harmful mining due to its presence, and still shines in all its glory. At amodoro we call this renewable energy.

Longstanding trust

Instead of buying from large primary sources, our production partners have been sourcing 100% of their gold since 2009 from trusting, long-standing partner companies from northern Germany, some of which carry out the entire recycling process on their own.

Our partners thus have direct control over what they are processed into rings in the next subsequent steps. All our partners are also RJC-certified (Responsible Jewellery Council) and thus part of an association of companies that are committed to responsible corporate practice along the entire supply chain and comply with the high legal standards for the purchase of gold in Germany.

So you can appreciate with the gold products from our house again what gold was originally about: imperishable beauty.
